Troubleshooting & Maintenance of AC Motors & Starters

This course reinforces the importance of following safety protocols when troubleshooting electrical circuits. Basic skills including the use of wiring diagrams, voltage testers and clamp-on ammeters to check for overload, single phasing and unbalanced line conditions in motor power circuits are covered.

Topics include those outlined in the Electrical Safety & Basic Troubleshooting Skills course and testing auxiliary contacts, overload relays, coils, .Heaters and pilot devices in control circuits. Additional topics include the presence of high AC line voltages in motor starter enclosures, acceptable operating voltage limits, preventative maintenance, excessive vibration, and causes of motor failure.
